Srinagar, Sep 29 (KNO): The scenic hill station of Garkote in Baramulla is set for a major eco-tourism makeover, with Zaloora in Sopore slated to follow, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa said on Monday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a mega public grievance camp at Tujjer on the outskirts of Sopore, DC Sherpa, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that Rs 40 lakh has been sanctioned under the district capex budget to promote Garkote as a green tourism spot.
“For the very first time, Garkote has been brought under the eco-tourism map with a dedicated budget allocation. Zaloora will be the next destination to be developed for eco-tourism promotion,” Sherpa said.
During the camp, residents and representatives from Tujjer and adjoining villages raised a range of issues related to healthcare, water supply and road connectivity. Responding to their concerns, DC Sherpa assured that genuine grievances will be addressed in a time-bound manner.
“We aim to resolve minor issues within days, while those requiring larger interventions will be taken up in the upcoming district or UT capex budgets for long-term solutions,” he said—(KNO)
